Rev. Austin Miles, a chaplain in Northern California is a writer and historian. He is the author of Santa's Surprising Origins, a story that received worldwide circulation and resulted in him being cast in the 2004 Hallmark Christmas Movie titled, Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus. He played the mall Santa who magically received the gift of sign language.

When the new “modernized” version of the Bible titled, The Message written by.Eugene Peterson suddenly materialized in the bookstores with lots of press attention, my own thinking was, “Here we go again. Why do we need another version of the Bible?” It was a proper question. It seemed like every other month another ‘modernized’ version of the Bible was popping up somewhere.

WASHINGTON-7,15-17—It was a spontaneous event with historical significance.  According to Faith Leader Johnnie Moore, a group of ministers were in the White house for an all-day meeting on policy that did not involve the leader of the free world.  President Trump learned that they were there and insisted that they come to the Oval Office to say “hi.”

Perhaps, the most overused word in America is “hate.” All you have to do is accuse someone who disagrees with you of hate, and that’s it: guilty as charged. Former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean even famously said recently that “hate speech” is not protected by the First Amendment.

Facebook Is No Replacement for Church

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, said (6/26/17) that the organization (and phenomenon), which he founded, can play a role in society that churches and organizations like little league used to play. He noted that membership in various groups has fallen by about 25 percent in recent years. Perhaps Facebook can help overcome that drop by getting people plugged into various groups.
