MilesTones • Gay Old Time At HBO
HBO Leads TV Networks in Gay Lifestyle Promotion. Since NBC beat them to the punch with their colorful peacock logo, HBO may be ready to hoist a rainbow colored flag as its trademark.
HBO has been heralded by the Network Responsibility Index of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLADD) as the highest among 15 networks for its promotion of gay characters last season. Ten out of their 14 original prime-time series presented content reflecting the lives of gay, bisexual and transgendered people for a total of 42 percent of the network’s programming. For ‘gays’, HBO is the way to go!
GLADD happily announced that prime-time TV programming featuring gay life-styles stood at 4901 hours. So there is no excuse for anyone not becoming involved with the ‘gay culture.’
Showtime devotes (for now) 26 percent of its programming to the homosexual cause. CBS and NBC, who have been a drag for some time, limped along with only 8 percent of their programs featuring gays. TNT is getting there, jumping to 19% last season from 1% the year before.
ABC proved to be the Queen Bee—or not to bee… by going ahead of the five broadcast networks with 24% of programming dedicated to homosexual characters. We don’t know what the percentage is for C-Span.
Anyway, there’s always the animal channel…oops…not even there as we now have gay penquins to deal with, even though that story ended in tragedy. The couple split up over a girl chick who ran off with one of the partners. Wonder what’s on radio these days?
