MilesTones • Affects of Global Warming? Polar Bear Gets Italian Girlfriend
The Berlin Zoo has a famous polar bear named, Knut. By arrangement with Munich’s Hellabrunn Zoo, a girlfirend for Knut is on her way. According to Der Tagesspiegel and reported by “The Local”, the Italian bear, named Gianna, named after rock singer Gianna Nannini, is three years old and will likely arrive in Berlin around mid-September. MilesTones takes note that naming a polar bear after a rock singer is better than naming a primate after Obama which caused a whirlwind of response not only in Germany but all across the globe.(See story on this website)
Gianna originally came to Germany from Italy and is still Italian, through and through. Her last intended mate, nine-year-old Yoghi didn’t work out. They simply did not get along, So Gianna had to move in with Knut’s grandmother, Lisa. Though Knut won’t be mature enough to mate for another two years, he and Gianna will get acquainted through bars before they are placed in the same cage, which could take days or weeks, Der Tagesspiegel reported. And these are the bear facts of life.
Hopefully, Al Gore’s Global Warming will heat up the passions of Knut and Gianna to insure that their first date will be memorable.. And even though this is another case of an arranged marriage, the participants will just have to grin and bear it.
