Religion • Prophecy Expert-Broadcaster Noah Hutchings Dead at 92

Rev.Noah Hutchings’ familiar voice was a staple at Southwest Radio Ministries out of Oklahoma with a down home voice that captured listeners and put his guests at ease. I was on his program when the TV series, Ancient Secrets of The Bible began to air. I was a writer-researcher for that series as well as appearing on camera. Rev. Hutchings was incredibly knowledgeable and one knew immediately that he knew his subject well and lived for God.

He was also a very humble man who did not put on airs, was very easy to talk to, and reflected Christian Grace.  He gifted me with a couple of his books which I proudly have in my study.  I wish the world was filled with ministers like him today.  He was truly a servant of God. Though his voice has been silenced, his presence will still be powerfully felt by his many writings. RIP Good and Faithful Servant.

Below is a look at his life as written by his daughter, Carol, and published by

December 11, 1922 – June 17, 2015

OKLAHOMA CITY—Heavenly angels lovingly escorted the Rev. Noah W. Hutchings, former president of Southwest Radio Ministries, into the presence of the Lord on June 17, 2015, at the age of 92.

Having worked at Southwest Radio Ministries, one of the oldest Christian radio ministries in the United States, since 1951, Noah Hutchings eventually became president of the ministry in 1988. Known by most of his friends as “Hutch”, Rev. Hutchings became well known in Christian communication circles for his in-depth books, commentaries, and radio programs on Bible prophecy. He always opened each radio program with the tagline, “God Is Still on the Throne, and Prayer Changes Things.”

While with Southwest Radio Ministries, Rev. Hutchings wrote over 100 books, including Daniel the Prophet, Revelation for Today, The Great Pyramid: Prophecy in Stone, God the Master Mathematician, Romance of Romans, Rapture and Resurrection, Petra in History and Prophecy, 25 Messianic Signs in Israel Today, and 40 Irrefutable Signs for the Last Days. Two of the books, Petra in History and Prophecy, and 25 Messianic Signs in Israel Today, were made into videos and shown in many churches and Bible studies in the United States and around the world.

Rev. Hutchings was a huge supporter of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. He led over 50 tours to Israel alone. Rev. Hutchings also led tours and mission trips to China, Russia, Mongolia, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and many other countries in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Rev. Hutchings’ influence within the Christian communications field is incalculable. Under his direction, Southwest Radio Church helped to launch the ministries and writing careers of Dr. James Dobson, Theodore Epp, Mark Hitchcock, the late Grant Jeffrey, and many others.

Because of his knowledge of the Bible and work at Southwest Radio Ministries, Rev. Hutchings was awarded two honorary doctorates of divinity, one from American Bible College and Seminary in Nashville, Tennessee, and one from St. Charles University in St. Charles, Missouri.

Noah Hutchings was born in Messer, Oklahoma, the fourth of six children to Thomas Clyde Hutchings and Mattie Blanche Eskew. He graduated from Hugo High School in 1939 and attended a vo-tech school in Ardmore. In 1942, Noah Hutchings was drafted into the United States Army and served as a radar technician under General Douglas MacArthur in the Pacific theatre during World War II.

After the war, Noah Hutchings returned to Oklahoma and enrolled at a small university in Oklahoma City, eventually receiving a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. While waiting for a position to open up at a large local business in 1951, he took a two-week temporary job as a typist with the late Dr. E. F. Webber and Southwest Radio Church of the Air. It was during this temporary job that Noah Hutchings became a Christian. When it was time to start the position with the other business, he turned it down and stayed at Southwest Radio Church. And the rest, as they say, is history.

A celebration of Rev. Noah Hutchings’ life will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Bethany. Pastor Charles Womack will officiate. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City. Rev. Noah Hutchings is survived by his wife, Kim Ky Hutchings; sister Sue Strickland and brother-in-law Al Strickland; children Carol Rushton, Cheryl Enders and son-in-law Chris Enders, Cathy Uselton, Pola Kry and son-in-law Sokha Kry, Sothea Vong and daughter-in-law Narath Chea Vong, Sothy Vong, Polina Dempsey and son-in-law Ted Dempsey, and Phaly Melnyk and son-in-law Dan Melnyk; and grandchildren Kelly Uselton, Jennifer Uselton, Khavin Kry, Stevin Kry, Elizabeth Dempsey, Matthew Dempsey, Sarah Vong, Christina Vong, Hannah Vong, McKinzie Melnyk, Ethan Melnyk, Maxton Melnyk, and Preston Melnyk.

Carol Hutchings Rushton is the oldest daughter of Noah Hutchings. Carol has been associated with Southwest Radio Church her entire life, as her father began work at SWRC in 1951, five years before she was born. She began assisting her father in the 8th grade, when she began proofing his radio scripts. She has worked in every department of the ministry through the years including correspondence, writing, broadcasting, editing and social media. For eight years, during the 1990’s, Carol was the “Israel Correspondent” for SWRC, filing reports from Jerusalem on Middle East news. She was, at the same time, a reporter for The Jerusalem Post. For the last eight years, Carol managed the SWRC website and Face Book page. Like her father, Carol is an accomplished author who loves Bible prophecy and the nation of Israel.
